It is inevitable that we shall all die and we cannot change the fact that we are to go through judgment because scripture says, “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” The question that remains is, “are we ready for judgment?”
Looking at the bible, in Romans 3:23, we are given a very disturbing piece of information, stating that “…all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” This apparently telling us that we are all sinners and therefore unworthy of heaven. Again in 1 John 1:8 “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” Furthermore, 1 John 3:8, “He that committeth sin is of the devil, for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested to destroy the works of the devil.”
So, we are being condemned by the word of God if we continue in sin. The worst of all these verses is found in Revelation 21:8, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderes, and whoremonger, and sorceres, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Oh, that is bad news, can it get any worse than this? Yes, the bible says “The wages of sin is death.” Roman 6:23a and “whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire” Revelation 20:15
Does this mean we have no hope at all? Not necessarily. You see the bible show s us a way to escape such painful end. Starting with John 3:16, 17 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.” I would like to note that the bible doesn’t say, God loved the Christians, it doesn’t say that God loved religous people or some race groups. The bible says God loved the world, meaning He loves every single person who lives in this planet. When God sent His son there were religious authorites but the were useless just like all modern religions are useless. Christ came not to start a religion but He came to “save that which was lost.” (Matthew 18:11)
Concerning our sin problem, this is what the word of God says, “for when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly…God commendeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us, much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.” (Roman 5:6-9) and so we hear that “there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit.” (Romans 8:1) and again “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away: behold, all things are become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
This is the hope we have and the grace of God have afforded us this gift of Salvation. We are saved by grace not by works (Ephesians 2:8,9)
