Strange Gospels: Ye are gods

Today, as it was in the past, there are many gospels that are being preached. There are false gospels and there is the genuine gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. The sad part about this is, the false gospels are more successful in drawing people to them because they appeal to the flesh. If these gospels are false then they are presenting a false Jesus. If they are presenting a false Jesus then everyone that trust in them will end up in hell! The fact that people will end up in hell while thinking to be going to heaven is the main reason I am writing this post.

The Man Centered Gospel

Preachers of these new gospels believe that a human being is the center of attention. They believe that since God loves us, He has an obligation to grant us whatever we ask. People are led to believe that they can make demands to God because they are now the sons of God and that God will leave everything to make sure His “sons live a comfortable life.” It is also believed amongst the preachers of this strange gospel that human beings possess the same creative power as God. Some even dare to have the audacity to declare that “we are gods.” Since “we are gods” we are not allowed to get sick or to be poor. If one believe in the Jesus of this gospel then they speak things into existence, just as God spoke the universe into existence.

Are we truly gods?

The idea that human beings are gods stems from the misunderstanding or a deliberate misrepresentation of Genesis 1:26 and John 10:35. In the first chapter of Genesis, the 26th verse, God speaking,

Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth”

it is explained to us as to how God created men in His own image and likeness, after He had created every creature by His Word. The teachers of that men are gods, support their doctrine by this verse.

The question that should be answered at this time is, “are we really gods?” The answer is a resounding NO!! Human beings are not gods but are human beings. Genesis 1:26 does not suggest that human beings are gods. There is only one God and anything that is known as a small “g” god is a false god, including idols, ancestors and other things that are worshiped as gods.

The human beings were made in the likeness and in the image of God, they were and are still subjects to God, even though they were superior to animals and to all of creation. Consider Psalm 8,

4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:
7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field
8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

The psalmist says that a man was made a little lower than angels…and so if this is the case then a human being cannot be equated to God neither can it be ascribed to them such as honor as worthy of God, for there is but One that became flesh and dwelt among us, even Jesus Christ the Son of the living God. Human beings are not “gods”

One may argue that Jesus did mention the fact that scriptures at one point in time referred to men as “gods” (John 10:34-35) and that scripture cannot be broken. What portion of scripture says to men “Ye are gods?” It is Psalms 82:6

“I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.”

Let us look at Psalm 82 and look at the audience and the context to and in which it is written respectively:

    Psalm 82
1 God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods. 2 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah. 3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. 4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked. 5 They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.
6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. 7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes. 8 Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.

As we can see, this Psalm was directed to those who had authority to judge or to execute justice among the people of God. God says to them, “how long will you judge unjustly and accept the persons of the wicked?” It is clear that whoever was being addressed weren’t a deity but were human beings who were not judging righteously, it was the people who never pleaded the cause of the poor and the needy.

What is wrong with being a “god”?

Let us take a time trip to the garden of Eden. Here is Eve engaging in a conversation with the serpent (snake). She is told that the forbidden fruit can be eaten because it doesn’t kill but it will make her and her husband to be “like gods” Eve, takes a closer look at the fruit and see that it is good for food, laying aside God’s warning “you shall surely die” and taking up the serpents false prophecy “Ye shall be like gods” she ate and gave her husband Adam and he ate. Their eyes were open and they saw that they were naked and they earned themselves a one way ticket out of Eden.

Jesus who is God in His full capacity took upon Himself a form of a man in order to save men from their fallen state. Jesus paid the necessary penalty to set us free from eternal separation from God. The only thing is we no longer should live unto ourselves but we should live for him who died for us and rose again, even Jesus Christ.(2 Corinthians 5:15, Galatians 2:20). Jesus taught and said in Luk 9:23-25,

23…If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. 24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. 25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

Irrespective of every thing that took place on the cross, the serpent still tries to interfere with God’s people by using the same old lie “Ye shall be gods” and improves it by putting it this way, “Ye are gods.“. Many charismatic Christians believe that they are “gods.” Now in order for someone to prove his or her godhood, he or she must receive worship, so since everyone is a “god” the best person to turn to for worship is “self.” That is why many “christians” make a better use of the word “I” more than the word “God” in their conversations. On the pulpits, it is always about how God did this for “me” and can do it for “you.” You get to hear all about how God wants his “gods” to be comfortable and then he “blesses” them with material possessions.

The devil played the “self card” with Jesus in the wilderness in Matthew 4 and Luke 4, three things: Self serving miracle, God moving on your behalf, and materialism with earth glory .

    1. Prove that you are the son of God, speak what you want and have it.
2.Take a step of faith and risk you life God will move on your behalf and perform a miracle according to his word
    3. Submit to me, you will get all the glories of the earth and physical blessings.

The old serpent of Genesis 3 is still talking through the false gospels and false teachers, getting men to worship themselves rather than God. People today put God on their schedule not as a necessity but as a luxury! FLEE FROM SUCH STRANGE GOSPELS!!!!
